What might Michael think if he found out about Jane’s past with Rafael?
BRETT: Aw, man. There’d be huge amounts of jealousy, that’s for sure. I’d be scared. Michael would be kind of scared and jealous.
Why does Michael still stick with Jane after all this drama?
BRETT: ‘Cause he loves her, man. That’s what love does. True love, you’ll do anything for it.
KSITETV: Yael, does your character truly love Rafael?
YAEL: She really does. I think that they had an amazing romance, and they fell madly in love, and I think they got married while madly in love, and then Rafael got sick and he had cancer, and things got complicated, and he just kind of fell out of love with her. But Petra’s still trying to hold on.
KSITETV: When he had cancer, did Petra take a lot of care of him?
YAEL: She did. She was with him throughout the whole process. She really loves him.
KSITETV: Petra’s a bit manipulative, too. Can you talk about that?
YAEL: What I can say is that I think that in the future of the series, a lot of her past, and her complexity, and her motives, are going to come into play. You’ll understand Petra better in the future.
What was your initial reaction upon reading the script?
BRETT: I loved it. There are so many storylines, and they all tie together. That’d be hard to write; impossible to write. I don’t know how she does it. I just love it because it’s got his own vibe. It’s really sweet, and it’s got romance, drama, everything.
Do you think Michael still has a chance with Jane?
BRETT: Yes. A big chance. They’re madly in love. For sure. 100%. I think it’ll be really hard, and I think that maybe Rafael’s gonna get in the way. There might be a couple fists thrown, I hope, but I think that Michael will fight for love.
Brett, is there any chance you might return to the Ravenswood universe again?
BRETT: I don’t know, man. Maybe I’ll go back on Pretty Little Liars for an episode or something. That’d be cool. But who knows.
And how about you with Reign?
YAEL: Well, who knows. You never know what’s going to happen, but at the moment I can say that I’m extremely happy being on Jane the Virgin.
Why should people tune in on October 13?
YAEL: I think Jane the Virgin is incredibly special. It’s something we’ve never seen before, because it’s really taking the larger than life events that people love in telenovelas, and throwing real life people into these situations, and I think that the difference between those two worlds is really what creates an incredible base for comedy and drama. It’s funny, and it’s an incredibly colorful world.
BRETT: Damn good answer. I agree!
