The critic-approved new CW series Jane the Virgin sees its series premiere tonight (October 13) at 9PM, which makes now the perfect time to share our interview with actors Yael Grobglas and Brett Dier, who play Petra and Michael, respectively, on the drama that has comedic moments.
Both characters that they are going to be majorly affected by Jane’s sudden pregnancy, and both actors are ones to watch on the show. This interview is presented in Q&A format; be aware that there are spoilers discussed within.
KSITETV: For those who haven’t seen the pilot yet, what can you tell me about your characters?
YAEL GROBGLAS: Well, I personally play Petra Solano, which is Rafael’s wife, who gets caught into the whole mess of Jane getting accidentally impregnated with my husband’s sample that was meant for me. And she doesn’t like it; she’s not happy about it. Clearly. And then she’s forced to fight to really keep the life that she’s always dreamed of. She’s a very complex, incredible character to play, and I’m having a blast.
BRETT DIER: I play Michael, the fiancee. I’m a detective. Great guy, solid guy, and he’s got to deal with a lot of stuff.
My character also has a dark side, which I’m super excited to explore.
This “a lot of stuff” involves Jane being pregnant with Rafael’s child. Could your two characters bond over this?
YAEL: Potentially.
BRETT: That’s a possibility.
YAEL: I mean, knowing Jennie Urman’s incredible writing, anything could happen. There are so many twists and turns ahead of us that who knows. Everything’s open.
Yael, if your character could do anything possible to get Jane out of the way, what would you want her to do and why?
YAEL: That’s a very good question. I think I’m going to leave that one up to the writers. [laugh] I think there are so many possibilities, knowing Petra.
