The second half of the fourth season of Switched at Birth, referred to as “Season 4B,” premieres tonight at 8PM. Some official photos from the episode can be found here.
While these episodes were in production a few months back, we interviewed actress Vanessa Marano (Bay) about what’s coming up in the new stories, including — of course — her relationship with Emmett. But first, of course, she reveals that Bay is doing something that’s not necessarily much fun.
“She’s just crying. A lot. There’s been so many crying scenes… I’m over it, guys. I’m ready for Bay to be happy,” Marano admits.
So what would make her happy? “Her and Emmett getting back together would make her really happy,” she says. “I feel like that’s not going to happen this early on, and she did tell him ‘okay, if you do this now, it’s forever,’ and then he did it, so she’d kind of have to go back on her word a little bit, but Bay’s comfortable being a hypocrite. I feel like that’s something that she’s totally fine with.”
“At this point, the sucky thing about heartbreak is there’s no quick fix. You’ve just gotta cry your way through it,” she continues.
In non-romantic news, there’s a big episode coming up with a Bay and Daphne road trip – giving Marano a chance to work with costar Katie LeClerc. “It’s going to be Bay and Daphne against the world,” she teases. Vanessa also confirms that she would like to see Bay making decisions for her own benefit as the show moves forward, rather than doing things at her own expense.
In the interview below — our apologies for the prison shower-looking background! – Vanessa Marano also talks about last year’s heavy campus assault storyline, what she has learned from being a part of Switched at Birth, and more.
“It’s going to be a really interesting season,” she says, “and we start off with a very huge storyline involving someone maybe being pregnant, so we’ll see what happens!”
