Tonight’s episode of The Tomorrow People, airing at 9PM on The CW, puts the spotlight on Aaron Yoo’s character Russell Kwon. Titled “Sorry For Your Loss,” Russell experiences a hard time within. We were able to speak with Mr. Yoo on the Vancouver set of the show, and some highlights from that interview are posted here. We meant to have video to accompany this interview, but ran into some technical issues. As such, this post will be updated very soon with video.
“My specialty is telekinesis, which, when you find out my past, you see the origins of the break-out and how that is the power that comes to the fore,” Yoo told our group up in Vancouver. “I also think in the construction of the character and what we’ve discovered about him as we’ve gone along, he’s very much a tactile, physical, less ‘brain quotient’… I was describing him to the writers. I was like ‘I feel like he’s like the id of the group. He doesn’t think, acts first, thinks later,’ which actually is the thing that kind of gets him into trouble. It all kind of fits along with teleki
nesis being the physical expression of the mind. He’s very much about grabbing things, and pushing things, and punching things, and all that sort of thing,” he explained to us.
“We all get along famously, but Robbie and I almost immediately, were like ‘do you think Russell and Stephen are gonna be, like, best friends?’ But initially, Russell is very wary very wary of the new kid. It doesn’t take that long for them to warm to each other because first Stephen kind of proves his usefulness, his mettle very, very quickly, and I think over the course of the pilot especially you see Russell going from maybe a stance of standoffishness or wariness to something along the beginnings of friendship, and then as the episodes go along, they become better friends. But, like, becoming better friends with Russell means that he pulls you into dodgy situations, [which] kind of comes into play later,” he said.
Tonight’s episode will reveal a bit more about his past, and it shows he wasn’t always the happy-go-lucky character he is today. “There’s almost like a drive to be the person that he is because he’s either fighting or running away from his past,” he expanded.
Don’t miss a new episode of The Tomorrow People tonight! Take a look at some preview images here. As mentioned before, we will have some video of our interview with Aaron Yoo posted momentarily.
