Fans of ABC Family’s The Fosters might already be familiar with Bianca Santos, who has played Lexi Rivera on multiple episode of the popular series. Film fans can look forward to seeing Ms. Santos in the upcoming thriller Ouija. The role of hers that we’re most excited about, though, is that of Lucy on MTV’s new series Happyland, which premieres Tuesday night, September 30 at 11PM.
“Lucy Velez is not your typical 17 year old,” she told us last week at a Happyland press day at the Santa Monica Pier, pointing out that when we first meet her, Lucy is not into the usual things like boys or partying. “She’s very driven, she’s very responsible, and she knows where she wants to be. I think what’s so interesting about Happyland is, you kind of see the unraveling of a teenager, and as she goes through all of these different situations that she has to navigate and kind of grow with it.”
The relationship between Lucy and her mother is interesting, because the mother, Elena (Camille Guaty), acts more like a teenager than her daughter does. “Lucy’s mother, Elena Velez, has been a park princess for 15 years,” Bianca explained. “So we’re very familiar with park life and what it’s like to be in this amusement park world. As a single mother, she’s raised Lucy, but really Lucy’s the responsible one, and so, a lot of the things that happen are Lucy taking care of Elena and making sure that things go right. That’s kind of what their relationship is based on.”
You can see our interview, where Bianca also talks about the men in Lucy’s life, a bombshell for her character, and more, below:
