TNT’s third season premiere of Dallas is just hours away, but before it airs, why don’t we get another interview posted from our recent set visit?
Now, the spotlight falls on Julie Gonzalo, whose “Pamela Rebecca Barnes” started out as a swindler about to marry Christopher to take down the Ewings in a big scam, who then went through great personal tragedy and ended up in an alliance – and a marriage – with John Ross Ewing (Josh Henderson). While the pair married last year, an actual wedding at Southfork is in the cards for Season 3.
“The funny part is that both marriages were both Ewings, so I’m so conflicted!” she laughed about Pamela’s multiple weddings. “Definitely, with John Ross, both of our families would not be happy, clearly, with our union, but I like that dynamic. It’s like they’re kind of both cut from the same cloth. They grew up similarly. They both had a father that hated each other’s father, so they both grew up with the same mentality, and the same ambitions, and a lot of the same characteristics, I’d say. So it’s very interesting to have them together. They got married because of business. They’re both very business driven. They got married because it would benefit most of them. It’s her way of having revenge towards her father. She’ll never forgive what he did. How could you even consider forgiveness on something so terrible? But now it’s growing into love and affection. I think they both really do care for each other, but at the end of the day, they’re still very much their fathers’ kids,” she said.
Multiple weddings for the same characters are a bit of a Southfork tradition, and Gonzalo said it was “wonderful” to have a second wedding at Southfork within three years. “It was definitely different than her first wedding to Christopher. I think that every season, I get married,” she joked. “[The costumer] asked ‘is it possible that every year I have to choose a wedding dress for you?’ and I’m like ‘yes.’ And then I look at Patrick and I’m like ‘fourth season.’ And then Brenda wants to kill me, but it is what it is!”
It might not be perfect marital bliss for John Ross and Pamela, but it will certainly be interesting, and the fans on Twitter have already told Gonzalo what to do. “Now it’s a hashtag #SlapJohnRoss. ‘You’ve got to slap him! Wait until you find out about you and him and Emma!’ They’re just waiting for me to, like, literally beat him up, which, we’ll see, I don’t know,” she said.
