We’ve warned you all that a lot of Supernatural interviews are coming between now and the Tuesday airing of the show’s 200th episode. Now, it’s time to turn the spotlight on Rob Benedict, who played Chuck Shurely a.k.a. Carver Edlund in the show’s past.
We spoke with him at the Supernatural 200th Episode Fan Party in Hollywood last week.
“More than anything, it’s made me feel more relevant to fans, to have that, and to hear the fans’ input, and receive that, and then talk back… I didn’t really have that before. You have that in in theater, you don’t have that as much in TV,” Benedict says about how Supernatural has changed his career. Additionally, he talks about how he’s made some great friends that he didn’t originally work with on the Supernatural convention circuit.
Episode 200, which airs Tuesday, sees some young women at a girls’ school creating a play based on Carver Edlund’s books. What would Chuck make of that? “I think he would be really thrown at first, and probably pretty overwhelmed by it… like ‘wait, they’re doing what?!?!’… but ultimately in the end, he would be very impressed,” Rob says.
Could Chuck ever return to Supernatural? “I think it’s inevitable. I mean, look, they’ve established him as this sort of godly sort of figure, so I think at some point… my vision is that Kripke’s gonna come back before it’s over, and when he comes back, I’m gonna come back, because I’m kind of the embodiment of him, right?” Benedict teases.
