Maddie thought that getting to know Patrick was fairly harmless. He was just a nice, good-looking guy she liked flirting with and since she wasn’t attracted to or interested by Gary, she needed someone nice to look at that she could have a little fun with. But part of her desire for Patrick stemmed from a subconscious need to get out of the lifestyle she’s been living, to find a sense of normalcy amid a sea of constant instability that grew emotionally exhausting after a while. While being a con-artist might have its financial perks, and while there’s something about it that Maddie might not be ready to give up just yet, it’s beginning to weigh on her in ways it didn’t before, a burden that has only grown not that she’s unwittingly dragged Patrick into the darker side of her life. Rather than having him off to the side and away from the web of deceit she has to spin with every mark, Maddie now has to clean him out or pay with her life.
On the next episode of Imposters, Patrick throws the birthday party for Maddie that he mentioned planning after their first time together. On the surface, it’s a very genuine, thoughtful gesture meant to bring Maddie closer to him, but what Patrick doesn’t know is that Maddie doesn’t want to get any closer to him than she already is for fear of expediting his financial ruin. Where Max told her that she should be able to reel Patrick in quickly considering how hot and heavy they are for one another, Maddie has to find a way to stall the process she’s become too familiar with in recent years and figure out a way to save both Patrick’s money and life from being taken by The Doctor. By getting so close to him in the time leading up to Gary’s death, Maddie’s done the dirty work of the con and gotten Patrick’s interest and trust faster than usual; therefore she has no margin of error now, not when she’s already with someone who’s capable of making these grand romantic gestures on a whim. But with Maddie already trying to simultaneously keep Patrick at arm’s length while figuring out what to do, how will she handle being confronted by Ezra, Richard, and Jules after they finally tracked her down?
Elsewhere on Imposters, Richard makes a shocking discovery about Maddie, while Max is forced to come to the rescue when something goes deeply wrong.
Imposters airs Tuesdays at 10:00 on Bravo.
How can Maddie protect Patrick while keeping herself out of the The Doctor’s crosshairs? Could whatever Richard discovers give him second thoughts about continuing his search for justice? Is it possible that Max feels too guilty about handing Sally over to The Doctor and seeks to right that wrong?
