At their TCA session today, Showtime announced that the sixth season of Homeland will be premiering Sunday, January 15th at 9:00, with the second season of Billions debuting the following month – Sunday, February 19th at 10:00. The staggered launch is a new edict from Showtime, who has transitioned from launching its scripted shows together to premiering something new every month.
Homeland season six finds Carrie living in Brooklyn after successfully thwarting the attack in Berlin. Now out of private security, an industry she got into during season five, Carrie is now working at a foundation that provides aid for Muslims living in the United States. Featuring new cast members Elizabeth Marvel (True Grit), Hill Harper (CSI: NY), and Patrick Sabongui (300), the season will center around the time between a US presidential election and the subsequent inauguration the following year.
The second season of financial drama Billions finds Axe and Chuck fighting for control in a world whose existential threat has forced them to decide between extinction and evolution. Starring Damian Lewis (Wolf Hall) and Paul Giamatti (Sideways), Billions follows the feud between U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades (Giamatti) and hedge fund billionaire Bobby “Axe” Axelrod (Lewis). The series also features Maggie Siff (Sons of Anarchy), Malin Akerman (Trophy Wife), and David Costabile (The Wire).
Homeland previously aired during the fall, but with creator Alex Gansa needing more production time to put together season six, the drama switched positions with Shameless, which will air its second season this year come fall.
