Although representatives from Disney+ and Marvel have declined to comment, Variety is reporting that Jeremy Renner may be headed to his own limited series to star as his Avengers character of Hawkeye — and the series will also feature the popular “Kate Bishop” Hawkeye character from current comics.
Here’s what else Variety had to say in their report:
The project is said to be an adventure series in which Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye, will pass the torch to Kate Bishop. Bishop is a Marvel Comics character who took up the Hawkeye mantle after Barton. She is also a member of the group known as the Young Avengers.
Jeremy Renner will next appear in the movie Avengers: Endgame which will be released later this month. Kate Bishop is a character conceived within the current millennium with Young Avengers #1 back in 2005. The writer of that comic book, Allan Heinberg, was the screenwriter of Wonder Woman, among other comics-adjacent projects; it will be interesting to see if he is involved with this project.
The Disney+ service has other Marvel-related projects also in the pipeline, including a Loki series, Vision and the Scarlet Witch, and a Winter Soldier/Falcon team-up. There is also an animated What If? project that will be using some of the big names from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Renner has been talking about the notion of a Hawkeye series for years, so it’s unsurprising that such a thing would be happening.
