Variety has revealed a treasure trove of casting news for Hawkeye, the Disney+ series which will star Jeremy Renner reprising his role from the Marvel Avengers films opposite Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, the other/possibly better Hawkeye. While these castings don’t have official confirmation from Marvel or Disney, it should be noted that the associated character descriptions seem very legit.
Here are some of the names that were revealed:
Florence Pugh reprising her role as Yelena Bolova from Black Widow (at the rate we are going, will Black Widow ever come out before then?)
Vera Farmiga as Eleanor Bishop, Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld)’s mother (Between this, Heroes, and NCIS, how many Eleanor Bishops are there?)
Fra Fee as Kazi, who might be the Marvel mercenary villain Clown
Tony Dalton as Jack Duquesne, who is very likely to be the Swordsman, an early mentor to Hawkeye from the comics
Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez, though fans of the comics know Maya as “Echo,” a deaf Native American who can copy another person’s movements. In the comics, she was also “Ronin,” an alias used by Clint Barton (Hawkeye) once upon a time
Zahn McClarnon is likely to play William Lopez, who may be a take on Echo’s father from the comics.
Sadly, no word on yet on if our personal favorite Hawkeye comic book character, Bobbi Morse a.k.a. Mockingbird (Adrianne Palicki) would be showing up, but we can hold out hope, right? Also interesting to note is there are no “Barney Barton” or “Trickshot” actors announced…. yet.
Executive producing and writing the series is Jonathan Igla (Mad Men). Production for the short-run series recently started in Atlanta and New York.
