OWN has announced that megachurch drama Greenleaf will be premiering its second season Wednesday, March 15th at 10:00. The series was renewed for a 16-episode second season that will be divided into two halves, with the first eight episodes airing in the spring with the second eight to follow during the summer.
From Craig Wright (Six Feet Under), Greenleaf follows the Greenleaf family as they run a high profile church in Memphis and deal with the ensuing public and private turmoil. Season two of the show focuses on the fallout from Jacob’s decision to lead the new Triumph community center, which hardens the Bishop and devastates Lady Mae, as well as Grace figuring out her next move after Mac evaded justice for his crimes. Other issues plaguing the Greenleaf family when season two picks up include the impact that Sophia’s absence has on Grace, Kevin and Charity’s struggle with their time apart, and the continued tension between Lady Mae and Mavis, likely stoked by the police arriving at the family estate.
Joining the cast this season is Rick Fox (Hit the Floor) as Darius, a local journalist who falls into Grace’s orbit, while the likes of newcomer Lovie Simone and GregAlan Williams (Containment) have been upgraded from recurring to series regular status.
