After over five years and multiple iterations in development, HBO has given their Green Lantern series Lanterns a straight-to-series order. The fshow will consist of eight episodes.
Chris Mundy of Ozark fame will be the showrunner, and additional writers for the series include Damon Lindelof (Watchmen and LOST) and award-winning DC Comics author Tom King, who has also been tied to various other DC projects in recent times.
“We’re thrilled to bring this seminal DC title to HBO with Chris, Damon and Tom at the helm,” DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran said in a statement. “John Stewart and Hal Jordan are two of DC’s most compelling characters, and Lanterns brings them to life in an original detective story that is a foundational part of the unified DCU we’re launching next summer with Superman.”
“We are elated to be reuniting with both Chris Mundy and Damon Lindelof as they partner with Tom for this fresh take on DC’s Green Lantern,” HBO chairman/CEO Casey Bloys added. “As part of James and Peter’s vision for the DC Universe, this first new live-action series will mark an exciting new era.”
The show will focus on Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart. Another Green Lantern, Guy Gardner, will be in the new Superman film where he will be played by The Rookie’s Nathan Fillion.
