The River’s Paul Blackthorne has joined the cast of The CW’s Green Arrow pilot Arrow, Deadline has revealed.
Paul Blackthorne, who is also well known as the lead of Syfy’s Dresden Files TV series, will be playing Detective Quentin Lance, Laurel (Katie Cassidy)’s father, who is described as a “gruff, determined city detective” who believes true justice comes only from law and order. He’s also tasked with bringing the vigilante known as “The Arrow” to justice. Conflict!
His casting is in “second position” to The River — meaning, if The River gets a second season they’ll likely have to recast. For now he is only listed as a “guest star” even though Quentin Lance should be a recurring presence if Arrow should go to series.
This isn’t Blackthorne’s only trip to the DC Comics universe of characters – he recently voiced Metallo in the DC Entertainment direct-to-DVD feature Justice League: Doom.
In addition to Blackthorne, Law & Order: Criminal Intent and Homeland actor Jamey Sheridan has also been cast in the pilot as Oliver Queen’s father, Robert Queen.

Bump him up to series regular on “Arrow” because “The River” is on it’s last legs.
Paul Blackthorne was great as Harry Dresden and I can definitely see him as a “gruff, determined city detective”, hopefully the scheduling works out. I’ve actually just been re-watching The Dresden Files, wishing that it had lasted longer than its single season.
“… The Dresden Files, wishing that it had lasted longer than its single season”.
I TOTALLY AGREE, Nosgoth1979!
Persoanally tho, since “meeting” Paul Blackthorne via Dresden, and wishing he’d had a bigger part in “The Gates” Show, I always found him to be a VERY sexy man.
In fact, I think he should be considered for the next James Bond.
(Forget this ‘gruff’ stuff) ;)
