The CW isn’t going to be the only network in the DC Comics adaptation business.

Battle_for_the_Cowl_Commissioner_Gordon_-1Deadline is reporting that FOX has won a bidding war for a TV project called Gotham that is getting an immediate series commitment with Warner Bros. Television. This news comes only minutes after the conclusion of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. on the East Coast.

No, this series won’t be about Batman, but rather, it is an origin story of Commissioner James Gordon from the Batman comic book universe. The project is said to also feature some villains from Batman’s rogues gallery.

The Mentalist’s Bruno Heller will be behind this TV adaptation. Deadline notes that Warner Bros. had wanted to do a Gotham City-set show within a year.

Assuming this makes it to air, it will be the first TV series set in the Batman universe to make it onto the air since Birds Of Prey. The CW considered a Dick Grayson-centered project The Graysons back in 2009, but it never actually came to be. (Though it did allow us to buy the GothamSite.com domain, so you can bet we know what to do with THAT!)

Let’s hope FOX gives this more time and love than they gave Human Target…

Share.

  1. i really cant see it lasting long on fox more so without having batman. I cant see much of a draw on a gordon show without batman. Though it is a much better idea then the other gotham idea floating around. Curious to see if it does go to series.
