If you’ve seen The CW’s Gotham Knights, you’ve surely already discovered the greatness that is Stephanie Brown, who – Spoiler warning – will go on a mission with the aforementioned “Knights” in tonight’s episode, “A Chill in Gotham.” The April 25 episode, airing at 9PM ET/PT on The CW, adds new and exciting layers to the Batman mythology, where the story you may think you know… might not be what you thought it was after all.
The show has also recently introduced Stephanie Brown’s parents, with Ethan Embry making a full appearance as cluemaster and game show host Arthur Brown. Bat-fans know where that story goes, even though this version of the story almost serves as a prequel to what we know in the comics.
“We’re telling the story before where everything starts in the comic book, imagining the world of what it’s like to have a successful TV host dad, and a mom who is slowly getting into deeper and deeper into addiction,” Anna Lore, the actress who plays Stephanie Brown, told us in an interview this week. “[Stephanie’s] home life is some of the most difficult work that I have in the show, and I’m just really lucky that I get to do it with Ethan Embry and Sonny Mabrey because they are just heavy hitters. I like working with them, and I learned so much from them. Thee’s really heavy stuff that we have to do, and they just treat it so delicately, and they take it so seriously. I couldn’t ask for better people to work with,” she praised.
And about the mission that Stephanie joins the Knights on, “I’ve seen the clip in the ads that has Stephanie looking in the window, saying ‘anyone want to give me a crash course in being a vigilante?’,” Anna confirmed. “Stephanie decides tonight that she’s going to get in on the crime fighting. She is not level headed, extremely emotionally motivated, and she is impulsive, so she decides to get in there, and there there are there consequences. She kind of learns what it really means to live the vigilante life.”
And now for the big Spoiler question: Might we ever see Stephanie in a purple costume like we do in the comics?
“I’m sure that I can say yes,” she said, with a caveat: “And when I say yes, I am only answering your question about the color purple.”
Hmm…
