Good news and bad news for fans of DC Comics adaptations.
THR revealed today that FOX has now officially ordered a pilot for Lucifer, based on the DC/Vertigo series of the name name, featuring the character Lucifer Morningstar. Per THR, Lucifer “is bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell and resigns his throne and abandons his kingdom for the beauty of Los Angeles, where he gets his kicks helping the LAPD punish criminals.” Lucifer is very charismatic and good at convincing people of things.
Also announced is that Jerry Bruckheimer and Jonathan Littman have jumped on as executive producers, and Len Wiseman (Sleepy Hollow) will direct and executive produce the pilot.
Sadly, the THR article also reveals that Global Frequency’s third try is also a fizzle. The project, which had Bruckheimer attached, is no longer moving forward. An attempt to make Global Frequency for TV happened on The WB a decade ago, executive produced by The Librarians’ John Rogers; another take was scripted around 2009 and also went nowhere.
For background on the character, most if not all of the series is available in trade paperback.
