Abby’s undergoing a time of major change in her life. Not only is she trying to start a new website in a time when the written word doesn’t have a whole lot of value to consumers or advertisers, she’s got a daughter losing her virginity, an ex-husband (and solid co-parent) out of the country working, and a former lover who returns to her orbit when she’s not exactly got the emotional energy to spare. It’s a lot to have to deal with and much of it forces Abby to face the fact that she’s getting older and that the life she once enjoyed, that pre-divorce/pre-public breakdown/pre-affair life that she once clinged to with pride, is dead and buried. But what happens when the universe decides to formally underline the passage of time and Abby’s own fears of mortality?
On the next episode of Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, Abby rushes out of town to deal with her father’s sudden admittance to the hospital. While this should be something that brings her and her mother together, it only serves as a way to highlight just how different their coping mechanisms are despite both being exceedingly high-strung. In general, Abby and Dina with no George buffer is a bit of a powder keg, but throw in the stress of George’s medical issues and the latent stress that Abby has from Lady Parts and Lily and it’s not a healthy environment for either of them. Even when Jo, Phoebe, and Delia make the trek to show their support, as Barbara is left to man Lady Parts by herself in Abby’s stead, Abby is reaching the point where it’s all just too much to deal with, too much for her mind to process at once. If she has any hope at not crashing in the imminent future, things have to change in a hurry, but what will be the first thing to give?
Elsewhere on Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, tension between Jo and Delia builds as they hide what they know about Albert, while Phoebe weighs whether to make significant lifestyle changes after not being able to find work.
Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce airs Thursday at 10:00 on Bravo.
Regardless of whether he survives, how will being in the hospital with her father impact Abby’s mindset when dealing with Lady Parts? Do either Jo or Delia have the right to be angry with one another considering that neither Jo nor Albert knew who the other really was? Could the initial rockiness of a life without Gemma and alimony give Phoebe second thoughts about returning to her relationship with JD?
