Today (January 14) brings us ABC’s day of the TCA Press Tour, and as we have the last few days, we’ve been live-blogging. Let’s get started, shall we?
Paul Lee Executive Session
Paul Lee talked about how many ABC-owned shows are on the network and successful on the network. The network is proud of their building of some nights, like the Wednesday comedy block and Thursday’s Shonda Night. Lee is also high on the midseason launches, which he describes as “just as good” as the shows they launched in the Fall.
Lee said positive things about Nashville and Revenge, so we probably shouldn’t count them out yet.
American Crime
American Crime (as opposed to American Crime Story, coming soon to FX) is another “kid murdered” show, but this one (from John Ridley) stars Timothy Hutton and Felicity Huffman. “It’s not about the police, it’s not about the prosecution. It’s about the family,” Ridley says. The show premieres Thursday, March 5 at 10PM.
Fresh Off The Boat
Based on the book by Eddie Huang, Fresh Off The Boat shows what happens when an Asian-American family moves to Florida. It looks very funny in the vein of The Goldbergs, and if it gets lost in its Tuesday 8PM time slot, it will be a real shame. The panel featured young Hudson Yang who is hilarious playing Eddie, and Randall Park, who most recently saw as Kim Jong Un in The Interview.
Secrets & Lies
Because there aren’t enough “a kid is killed, let’s solve the murder shows” – though at least Juliette Lewis jokes “ours is better” – ABC has a new murder mystery premiering March 1, and it stars Lewis, Ryan Phillippe, and KaDee Strickland. The show comes from the perspective of the suspect, Ben Crawford.
Agent Carter
Marvel’s Agent Carter is a new series set decades ago in the greater Marvel Universe. There was not a lot of new information revealed at this point. The show recently premiered on January 7.
