TCA Summer 2014 Press Tour Report: USA, Syfy, & NBC Cable

Today’s day of the TCA Press Tour focuses on NBC’s cable and sports properties.

The first spotlight goes to USA, which has two new dramas planned for Summer 2014 – Rush, about a renegade physician that caters to the “Hollywood elite,” airing on Thursdays; and Satisfaction, which asks “how far would you go to save your marriage?” Satisfaction will also air on Thursdays.

USA also has a “whole new pipeline of dramas on the way.” They are now developing Mr. Robot, a cyber-crime series. They’re also about to start production on Complications from Matt Nix, about a disillusioned doctor whose outlook changes after he witnesses a drive-by shooting.

Both of USA’s freshmen series, Sirens and Chrisley Knows Best, have been renewed for second seasons.

NUP_164656_0002.jpgDig – Dig is an “event series” from Heroes’ Tim Kring airing on USA this Fall. The first trailer for the series, which spotlights a conspiracy that has gone on for 2000 years, debuted here at the TCA Press Tour. Jason Isaacs and Anne Heche star. The series will run for only 6 episodes, and has a “beginning, middle and end” and has “the possibility of moving on to another story.” Dig is a “murder mystery” set in Jerusalem, shot in Israel.

Chrisley Knows Best – The second season of the series featuring Todd Chrisley and his family is coming this Fall. A reel spotlighting clips from Season 1 was shown, and the audience was given some delicious banana pudding based on a recipe from Julie. This year, son Chase is 18 and sure to be even more of a pain in the neck for Todd.

The Profit on CNBC and Sunday Night Football had panels, but are you really at KSiteTV to read about that?

Meredith Vieira has a new talk show to be distributed by NBC Distribution, and it looks like she will add a fresh and likable take to daytime. The set is made to look like her real living room, torn up furniture and all. The show premieres in September.

Bravo – Bravo is adding a fourth franchise to Million Dollar Listing, with the new season happening in San Francisco. They are also introducing their first scripted drama, Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, from Buffy’s Marti Noxon. What interested us about the panel was that there is a reference to a “CW star” in a fictional show within the show called Blood Sisters that we would be happy to watch.

There was a fantastic performance of Katy Perry’s “Roar” to promote Fix My Choir, and then Oxygen’s Preachers of L.A. came up.

Esquire presented My Friends Call Me Johnny with Jean Pigozzi, from producer Joel Silver.

Syfy: Ascension – Ascension, from producers Philip Levens and Jason Blum, stars Tricia Helfer and Brian Van Holt on a ship that took off from Earth in 1963, and picks up in the present day. The six-episode event series airs in November 2014.

12 Monkeys – Nikita’s Aaron Stanford and Noah Bean are joined by Amanda Schull and Kirk Acevedo in this new take of 12 Monkeys. We haven’t seen this one yet, but we’d really like to.Sharknado 2 – Syfy screened the Sharknado sequel tonight with cast members. Sadly we’re going to miss it, but we’re sure it’s a good time!
