Today is the CBS portion of the TCA Press Tour, and we’ll be live-blogging as we have before. Be sure to refresh the page for updates throughout the day.
Nina Tassler Executive Session
CBS has the most shows in TV’s top ten, ratings wise. The show has accomplished many goals, and they have the top three ranked new shows of the season, as far as – NCIS: New Orleans, Madam Secretary, and Scorpion. Stalker is still a contender for another season. CBS is also high on the growth of shows like Mom, and Tassler talks about the January 22 episode is one to watch.
CBS is also proud of the many leading ladies on the network, and they’re excited for Supergirl on Warner Bros, and Tassler talked about the new faces of late night, with The Late Show with Stephen Colbert premiering on September 8.
When asked why Supergirl is headed to CBS, Tassler says they fell in love with the pitch, and that Supergirl fits in with the strong women that they are proud of on the network. Tassler also related that she was at Warner Bros. when Lois & Clark: The Adventures of Superman was developed for ABC, and that the humanity of the character and the story’s trajectory appealed to the network. Tassler will not confirm if Charlie Sheen is returning for Two and a Half Men, but says that Chuck Lorre has promised a “mystery sandwich.”
Tassler was asked if CBS considered picking up Dallas, and said that there were not even discussions.
The Millers Season 2 “just didn’t take off” which is why the show was pulled. The McCarthys “certainly will be a contender next year.” In the case of The McCarthys, the shorter order was so The Odd Couple could end up on the schedule.
The Dovekeepers
CBS gave a first-look preview of The Dovekeepers from Roma Downey & Mark Burnett, based on the book by Alice Hoffman. The miniseries premieres in March. See a trailer here.
The Odd Couple
CBS is reviving The Odd Couple, and this time, Felix and Oscar are played by Garry Marshall’s favorite Friend, Matthew Perry, and someone Marshall had never heard of but wants in his next movie, Thomas Lennon. They were asked about reinventing a TV classic, laugh tracks, and the conception of the show.
CSI: Cyber
CSI: Cyber is described as the next evolution in the CSI franchise as Patricia Arquette leads a team of characters (including James Van Der Beek and Bow Wow) as they investigate computer-related crimes.
