Sad news: Adam West, star of Batman who was even the Mayor of Quahog in Family Guy, has passed away. He was 88 years old and had a short battle with leukemia.
His Batman TV series in 1966, in which he played the Caped Crusader alongside Burt Ward’s Robin, was a pop culture phenomenon, and West never seemed to shy away from the role which made him famous. “Batmania” swept the globe and resuscitated the character in a way that has kept him relevant and well-known for many more decades. Deals between the production companies involved brought a recent resurgence of Batman memorabilia tied to the show now affectionately referred to as “Batman ’66.”
From a personal perspective, West was memorable as he was the first celebrity I ever met at a San Diego Comic-Con (as it was called then) back in 1994. He had a fun sense of humor reminiscent of the characters he would play on TV. He will certainly be missed as one of TV’s great icons.

The Sadness is almost unbearable. For those of us who grew up in the 60s and 70s, although the cinema has given others, very good in theirs, it was he who gave us many joys in childhood and we waited week after week the outcome of situations that astonished those who were children, Rest in peace, Batman.
