More Pilot Buzz From The Live Feed

James Hibberd’s The Live Feed has weighed in on the latest pilot buzz, and since we’ve been tracking a lot of the networks’ Fall 2010 pilots, we thought we’d share:

    CBS
Hawaii Five-O is still the “most likely drama” to be picked up as a series order. Chaos, Defenders, and Bleep My Dad Says all sound like top contenders. Hibberd notes that “nobody seems to like” the Criminal Minds spin-off but it will probably get picked up for mid-season anyway.

    FOX
Drama series Breakout Kings, Midland, and Ride-Along are top contenders. The Spielberg dinosaur drama Terra Nova hasn’t had a script delivered yet. Comedies Keep Hope Alive and Traffic Light are “frontrunners.”

    NBC
NBC picked up several pilots to series yesterday, but they’re not done yet. The Rockford Files and Chase are still “near-locks.” Hibberd notes (good news!) that even though it was said NBC was choosing between The Event and The Cape, The Cape is now “generating unexpected heat.”

    ABC
ABC is eyeing an 8PM timeslot for No Ordinary Family. (They seriously should come up with a better name, though – I still keep getting it confused with Modern Family!) Detroit 187 and Shonda Rhimes’ Off The Map are still called “sure bets.” For comedies, Mr. Sunshine with Matthew Perry seems the strongest.

    The CW
Nikita is “practically on the schedule,” and Hibberd notes that the network is also excited about Betwixt (aka Changelings.) Hellcats is also “well liked.” Nomads and HMS are considered “long shots.”

You can read Hibberd’s full column here.

It’s to bad, why is the CW considering Hellcats, a rip-off of both “Glee” and “Bring it on” over Nomads? A show that seems to be a very original take on the typical spy drama.

    2. ChuckNBC on May 10, 2010 2:47 am

I totally agree with Jes! Hellcats is a total rip off, the CW are morons for picking it over Nomads! Nomads also, unlike Hellcats has a decent cast…Welling producing Hellcats is NOT reason enough to watch that ****, sorry CW

Have to disagree…Scott Porter and Micheala McManus do NOT equal “a decent cast.” While Hellcats has Ashley Tisdale, Aly Michalka, Matt Barr, Robbie Jones….on and on….with much more potential to add other stars, since it’s a college-drama setting.

How many spy dramas does network TV need? It was done first and best by Alias; nothing else will measure up. That’s why I’m skeptical about Nikita. Hope I’m wrong. But with the current success of Glee, why NOT try to capitalize on it? And no, it’s not a direct clone–just something that writers can try to pidgeonhole it as.

That said, Hellcats sure better be COMPELLING, because on the surface, it’ll be a hard sell to a wide audience. For that reason, I’d give a long, hard look at the Palladino project with Sean Faris.

    4. Jes on May 10, 2010 2:35 pm

The way I see it your argument contradicts itself! What you say about Hellcats and Glee can also be applied to Alias and Nomads! And with that I have five things to say and for you should take into consideration before you say anything else.

First, Alias was such a huge success why not capitalizes on it with not one, but two shows. One being a reboot and the other being an entirely new prospect with both equaling endless story possibilities.

Second, how can you compare Nomads and Alias? There both spy dramas and the characters travel around the world. But similarities end there! It’s not like Nomads is trying to be the next Alias, the show is trying to stand on its own. But the similarities with Hellcats and Glee are endless. The only differences are a cheerleading squad over glee club and a collage setting over a high school setting. While the plot and characters sound like the exact same thing! It’s a just a plan rip-off simple as that! And may I add that Hellcats was originally going to be called Cheer, but changed so it’s not to similar to Glee!

Third, Nomads is generating really good script reviews. While, Hellcats is not!

Forth, since when is a cast consisting of Ashley Tisdale, Aly Michalka, Matt Barr and Robbie Jones a more solid then a cast featuring Scott Porter and Micheala McManus. All of these actors have had solid hits and horrible misses in there past. And you do release that Scott Porter and Micheala McManus aren’t the only cast members in Nomads! Oh, and guess what? Since Nomads takes place globally it has a WAY…WAY bigger chance to expand and change its cast and recurring cast! Just look at other shows that take place globally like NCIS and JAG!

Fifth, Alias was not the first and not the best spy drama. BTW; the same thing you said about “nothing being able to measure up” was said about Buffy. While nothing has ever topped Buffy story wise, networks have had huge success with vampire based dramas! Just look at HBO’s True Blood and the CW’s The Vampire Diaries. And do you honestly think Hellcats, with such a poor script I might add, could measure up to Glee?

    5. io4 on May 13, 2010 1:01 pm

I agree with Jes and ChuckNBC, the CW are morons for picking Hellcats over Nomads. Sorry Jonah, but you might want to work on tour arguing and rationalization skills! Because seriously in what world is a cast with Ashley Tisdale and Aly Michalka considered decent cast?
