If you’re like me and grew up in the 1980’s, you probably spent every afternoon watching the “Real American Hero” G.I. Joe on TV every afternoon. For me, it was at 4PM on WTTG Channel 5, which I switched to after getting a serving of M.A.S.K. goodness at 3:30 on WNUV.
KSiteTV just got a heads-up from the International G.I. Joe Collectors’ Convention. Their next event will be held next weekend in Orlando, from March 31 through to April 4. We can’t make it, but there are some G.I. Joe voice favorites such as Hank Garrett (Dial-Tone) and Morgan Lofting (The Baroness) in attendance. The man responsible for many of the series’ iconic characters and writer of hundreds of G.I. Joe comics, Larry Hama, will also be there.
The convention will be host to a lot of exclusives that you can get only at the Con, including a carded 25th Anniversary Dial-Tone action figure and a “Special Mission: Brazil” action figure set containing several figures that have never been released in the new styling as well as some Python Patrol baddies. (Anyone able to pick a carded Dial-Tone up for me, or anything that I couldn’t get as a non-attendee? I didn’t think so, but hey, worth a try….)
Anyway, here’s the on-air television promo for the convention. And if you haven’t seen the 1980’s G.I. Joe animated series… that’s too bad. A lot of the animation still stands up today, and there are episodes like “Worlds Without End” that I can still watch repeatedly.
