Crime Watch Daily, a new daily news and investigation series from Warner Bros. Television Distribution, premieres in the United States today in syndication (check your local listings). The series will showcase current and ongoing crime investigations as well as doing their own undercover investigations.
The show is hosted by Australian Matt Doran, who worked on a similar show Down Under called Wanted.
“I’ve covered crime in Australia for the last decade and the show we worked on, ÂÂ Wanted,ÂÂ was a microcosm of what this is going to be,” Doran told us at the Television Critics Association press tour this summer. “This is on a much more enormous scale. What I loved working on that show is that we actually were able to help bring solace to families who have been looking for some sort of answer to various crimes for many many years. It was the police that did the bulk of the work — I’m not trying to say we did much of it but we did play a role because there were crucial nuggets of information that came through our tip line that actually were pivotal in helping solve a number of these cases, really serious crimes,” he recalled.
“I have no doubt that it’s gonna be the same with Crime Watch Daily,” he enthused. “We’re already starting to see some inroads in some things that we’ve unearthed on particular crimes ÂÂ some of them really big here ÂÂ that police didn’t know about. As a journalist for me that’s the absolute ultimate. Because if you can play some role in helping to solve some of these crimes, then there’s nothing bigger than that as a crime journalist, and it just makes me feel amazing,” he said.
Doran is joined by other journalists including Emmy Award-winning reporters Michelle Sigona and Andrea Isom and New York Times best-selling author, Jason Mattera. Each has their own specialty and approach, and we will see their reporting on the show on a daily basis. Additionally, viewers can reach out to the show via social media, giving the series an interactive feel.
