Considered by many to be the finest animated adaption of a comic book to date, Batman: The Animated Series introduced a new generation to Batman and the world of characters in Gotham City. Today, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will be releasing Batman: The Complete Animated Series Deluxe Limited Edition on Blu-ray — and especially for a fan of this great animated show, this is likely going to be a treat.
Containing all 109 episodes of the series spread over 10 Blu-ray discs, the set also has two bonus discs including the fan-favorite animated movies Mask of the Phantasm and SubZero, commentary on 11 specially-selected episodes, and exclusive Funko mini-figurines and lenticular art cards on the Deluxe Limited Edition set. Demand for this set has been so great that the press run has been raised to 70,000 copies — so, obviously there’s a lot of interest. It’s not surprising — this is the show that gave us things like Harley Quinn, Kevin Conroy’s great performance as Batman, and Mark Hamill’s groundbreaking Joker.
Additionally, fans will get digital copies of the episodes within the set. The set also includes The Heart of Batman, an impressive 90-minute documentary on the making of Batman: The Animated Series that includes interviews with nearly three dozen members of the cast and crew, detailing the intricacies of production behind the landmark animated show, and it’s all wrapped in an impressive booklet. With the episodes alone, it will make for hours of entertainment; the extras, compiled, offer even more. I’m especially looking forward to seeing the feature about the voice actors; the original 1991 presentation of the show is also included on the Blu-ray set.
You can see an example of the remastering that went into this Blu-ray set below. Batman: The Animated Series never looked this clear.
