A recent article by James Hibberd of The Hollywood Reporter, himself very respected within the TV community, included a tidbit about the futures of Heroes and Chuck that went unnoticed by many in the fan community for the last few days.
In his piece on Parenthood, he said this:
NBC still has a couple major titles on the bubble for renewal — namely “Chuck” and “Heroes” — but sources indicate both will probably return, with “Heroes” likely receiving a 13-episode “final season” order.
“It is all yet to be debated,” Bromstad said. “Both of those shows make sense with the new shows we’ll be bringing on.”
The “Bromstad” referred to is NBC primetime president Angela Bromstad.
This is not only interesting news for fans of Heroes and Chuck, but for those looking forward to the new pilots The Cape and Undercovers as well. Could one hero show lead into another? Could fun spies lead to sexy spies? (Then again, Sarah on Chuck is pretty darn sexy). We’ll know for sure when NBC announces their Fall schedules next month.

Hmmm, not sure what the rationale behind continuing Heroes is. Audience erosion is to the point that it would be the highest rated show… on the CW. :-| And creatively, they’ve never really recovered from the quagmire they were in. Let it go, NBC, and start building towards the future.
Now, Chuck, on the other hand, is encouraging news. If they manage to get even a 13-episode order to close out the show it will have been creatively earned.
I said pretty much the same thing on the new KryptonSite/KSiteTV facebook page http://tinyurl.com/ksitefan , and was pretty much told that I was crazy.
I felt like Heroes had an ending with the S4 finale. Hiro’s quest was over, Claire ended the series in a similar way to how she started it, Sylar was redeemed (though he never needed to be in the first place). To continue the series risks losing that ending that I liked so much.
I also don’t know what Heroes could do to recover the ratings it once had. Sure, there’s “be as good as it was in Season 1” but even if it was, I think too many people have moved on. It’s a shame because Season 1 especially was so good.
‘Heroes’ really was quite special and well-done that first season. I stuck with it as long as I could. I gave up after the first part of this season. You always wish with shows like this that they would actually plan out the themes and major arcs of each season from the get-go (set an end-date upfront), even if they don’t break the stories until you sit down to plan the season at the start of that season.
I disagree with anyone that sais that NBC should have cancelled heroes at the end of season 4 cuz alot for people said that they thought S3 to S4 wasn’t well planned out and had a lot of holes in it, but what I dont understand is how people don’t get that if your making a series you don’t want to give the best of it out at the bgining.
Ok S1 was awsome cuz it was new!!! Then S2 carried it on which was pretty good. (You get to see more about the heroes and their past, and more heroes were intorduced then they just fill in the middle with some linier story to keep the veiwer ocupied then they have as big final!!
I think that heroes should finninsh at season 6. depending on what S5 is going to be like!! If they finnish it a a 13 episode season I reckon they wont have the time to explai everything…Let alone tie up all the loose endings, but there is antother way which would to be at the end of seson 5 put a ‘To be continued…’ and carry on in a year or so.. get some fresh ideas in, just concerntrate on somthing else… Theres no point in just getting rid of somthing so genius!!
As for ‘Chuck’ I never watched it but it does look good!! (Y) ;D
First off Chuck and Heroes are awesome.
Now let me qualify that.
1. Chuck is and always will be great!
2. Heroes started out great with a strong and unique season 1. Season 2 looked like it was headed somewhere but the writers strike interrupted that. I don’t think the same writers came back and the story was to abrupt in finishing. Season 3 started to showcase an interesting story and characters but for the most part between seasons much was lost with some of the character developement and the Copy Cat story was just poof …. gone! Season 4 I was asking myself where this was going and it never really took off for me. Season 4 seemed it was building but then was rather anticlimatic in the end.
Anyone else feel this way?
I hope they come back strong with season 5, I am willing to forgive.
HEROES is set up to be the best series ever. people who stopped watching are missing out.
Tim Kring and company have managed to bring the Heroes universe to life with the website and all the awesome material on there.
i’m really sad the show was canceled. hope there is at the very least a short season 5 to wrap it all up, but ideally, give the creators time to finish it off however they want.
