When it comes to returning one of the original favorite characters of Full House for its Netflix sequel Fuller House, one would think it might’ve been easy for the production to bring back Michelle Tanner: After all, there were two of them to choose from.
Of course, those two actresses, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, happened to be businesswomen in their own right now with no interest in returning to acting. While it sounded like hopes were high to bring back Michelle for Fuller House Season 2, it’s now sounding more and more that it won’t happen. The amount of shade thrown at the Olsen twins during Season 1 could not have ingratiated the show upon them.
If rumors are true, the Olsen twins’ sister Elizabeth Olsen was approached to play her sisters’ classic role, but with an active movie career and the notion that not many people might want to take on a role made famous by their siblings, it didn’t happen. Who knows if those rumors were even for real.
So, Fuller House, we have to talk.
Currently, the show is one of the most popular series on Netflix, and a second season is coming likely early next year. But Fuller House can’t go forever without Michelle… can it?
Good news, Tannerinos: We have the perfect actress for you. Yes, we’re pulling out the “Fantasy Casting” card again, which we tend to do from time to time here at KSiteTV.
Olesya Rulin of High School Musical fame recently wrapped her role as Calista on the PlayStation Network’s Powers. You’ll also see that she looks a bit like how one would picture Michelle growing up to look if she didn’t go all fashionista like the Olsens did. Consider her a more down-to-Earth, friendlier looking person. Oh yeah, and she can act… and as a bonus, she’s actually the exact same age as the Olsen Twins are, even though she looks to be a few years younger. Here are some pictures:
So there’s our case: Olesya Rulin should be the new Michelle Tanner. Sign the deals, make it happen, don’t make us go another year without seeing the girl who is probably mortified that people think she can’t say more than “you got it, dude!”
Sometimes, these reunion series or specials are missing key components, and sometimes that means a recasting has to be done. Heck: There was only one Brady Bunch reunion with the entire cast (that would be “The Brady Girls Get Married.”) Neither I Dream Of Jeannie reunion movie featured Larry Hagman, and on a Dallas note, that show may have kept the original John Ross for their first reunion movie, but they, too, recast. And so what if Rulin is younger? Through the magic of TV reunions Chrissy Seaver can be born on Ben’s eleventh birthday on Growing Pains yet there can be only a six-year difference in that one reunion movie where they sell the house (even though they moved from there in the final episode, so it must have been an alternate universe anyway). Hey. They can’t all be Girl Meets World, which is even bringing back both (!!) Morgans soon.
Would you watch Fuller House with a different Michelle? Or is this the worst idea since John Stamos had a mullet? Leave some comments below, but please, have mercy!
