• Ant-Man & The Wasp in Quantumania

From CBR:

According to Deadline, Lovecraft Country star Johnathan Majors has joined Ant-Man 3, possibly as the time-traveling Marvel villain. The report states Majors will play a lead role in the film. Although the studio did not comment, the report's sources indicated he is "likely" to appear as
Kang
. Additionally, his Ant-Man 3 appearance will potentially build the character up to be a main villain in the franchise.
If that turns out to be the case, I wasn't expecting it.

Marvel Boss Kevin Feige announced that the title of Peyton Reed’s third Ant-Man is Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, but also that Big Little Lies actress Kathryn Newton was joining as Cassie Lang. She’s the daughter of Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang and she has the same powers as her father: the ability to shrink and grow in size. She did get her powers long after her first exposure to Pym Particles. She has the superhero alias Stature.

Newton plays Reese Witherspoon’s rebellious teenage daughter Abigail in HBO’s Big Little Lies. Her feature credits include Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Lady Bird, and Pokemon Detective Pikachu.

Super-Hero partners Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and the Wasp. Together, with Hope's parents Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), and Scott's daughter Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton), the family finds themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought possible.

It's current rating on Rotten Tomatoes is 47%, tying it with Eternals (the lowest rated MCU movie).

Some Rotten Tomatoes scores for MCU movies over the years:

Thor: Ragnarok: 93%
Ant-Man And The Wasp: 87%
Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2: 85%
Captain Marvel: 79%
She Hulk: Attorney At Law: 75%
Thor: Love And Thunder: 64%

Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania is on par if not better than all those movies/shows. A standard silly MCU movie with wacky humor and entertaining action scenes.

Look, if you are traditionally not a fan of the MCU's tone and humor, then I can see why you wouldn't like this. But for Rotten Tomatoes critics to sour on this movie after all the dross they have lavished with praise over the years, it's beyond laughable. But then again, these guys have been a joke to me ever since they showed their colors by deliberately trashing Batman v Superman in order to sabotage the film. But then again, they were still getting their allowance from Mickey back then...

On a more positive note, Jonathan Majors completely owns this movie with his poise and presence. The guy is a star in the making and I'm glad he will be the focal point of the next 2 Phases (the only positive I can see about them right now).

'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania' may have won the weekend with $32.2 million but got badly dinged by 'Cocaine Bear,' which opened to a much better-than-expected $23.1 million for Universal. The faith-based 'Jesus Revolution' also delivered strong numbers.

Marvel and Disney’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania may have stayed atop the domestic box office chart in its sophomore outing with an estimated $32.2 million, but the real superhero of the weekend was Universal’s high-concept genre pic Cocaine Bear.

Ant-Man 3 fell 69.7 percent in North America, the worst decline ever for a title in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after eclipsing Black Widow‘s 67.8 percent drop (the latter pic had the disadvantage of opening during the pandemic, and was made available simultaneously in the home).

The Ant-Man threequel also suffered the worst second-weekend drop of any superhero film opening to $100 million or more. DC’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice previously sat in the hot seat at 69.1 percent. Among MCU movies in this category, last year’s Thor: Love and Thunder saw the biggest decline, or 67.7 percent, after debuting at $144.2 million. And among all films starting off with $100 million or more, the final Harry Potter installment, released in 2011, tops the list of biggest second-weekend drops with a decline of 72 percent, according to Comscore.

Ant-Man 3
opened to $120.4 million over the four-day Presidents Day weekend, including a franchise-best $106.1 million for the three days (the three-day number is used as the official comparison going forward). But poor word of mouth is clearly hurting the movie, along with the competition posed by Cocaine Bear. Nor did a historic storm on the West Coast help matters.

Jonathan Majors was arrested Saturday after being accused of assaulting a woman during a domestic dispute, the New York Police Department said in a statement.

A representative for the Creed III actor told The Hollywood Reporter, “He has done nothing wrong. We look forward to clearing his name and clearing this up.”

Police said they responded to a 911 call at an apartment in Chelsea where a 33-year-old male was involved in a domestic dispute with a 30-year-old female.

“The victim informed police she was assaulted. Officers placed the 33-year-old male into custody without incident,” according to the statement, which identified the male as Majors. The woman sustained minor injuries to her head and neck and was taken to a hospital, police said.

The actor was arrested on charges of strangulation, assault and harassment, according to the spokesperson. He is no longer in police custody. His relationship with the woman was described only as “domestic.”

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is on track to become the first non-pandemic film to lose money for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Following reports Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is on track to become the lowest earner in the Ant-Man film trilogy, the recently-released threequel looks set to earn another dubious record for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Per Variety, Quantumania will likely become the first non-pandemic Marvel tentpole to lose money as its worldwide box-office take of over $470 million during its six-week theatrical run isn't enough to make back its budget. Factoring in $200 million for production costs and $100 million for marketing, Quantumania will fall well short of the $600 million needed to break even.

Quantumania started well enough, notching a $106 million opening weekend. However, with Quantumania's box-office momentum crumbling in recent weeks, the latest edition in the Ant-Man series will likely fall well short of the titular original and Ant-Man and the Wasp, which made $519 and $622 million, respectively. The movie's $470 million take globally isn't much more than other MCU features released in the height of the COVID-19 pandemic era, including 2021's Black Widow ($379 million), Eternals ($402 million) and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings ($432 million). However, Black Widow and Eternals were granted amnesty because of debuting during the pandemic and receiving simultaneous Disney+ releases.

The verdict was reached Monday by a six-person jury after over four hours of deliberation spread across three days. The actor is set to be sentenced on Feb. 6.

A New York jury found Marvel actor Jonathan Majors guilty of reckless assault in the third degree and guilty of harassment.

The verdict was reached on Monday by a six-person jury after roughly over four hours of deliberation spread across three days. Jonathan Majors, wearing a grey suit and black dress shirt and tie, sat with his attorneys, with family members and his girlfriend, Meagan Good, behind him as the verdict was read. He was found not guilty of intentional assault in the third degree and not guilty of aggravated harassment in second degree. Sentencing is set for Feb. 6.
I'm posting this here, as I did the previous coverage on this thread.
