I was wondering why couldn't they just transmute the bomb into something that wasn't explosive.

Unless they can't do that yet even though they filmed a scene on the Flash where Firestorm transmuted a flower; it was eventually deleted.

He's also the CEO of Tesla Motors and SpaceX.

He was born in 1971 so Stein is allowed to use it and wouldn't be called out.
