You're taking the just watch it approach to Thrones. I used that technique to good effect on the Harry Potter Books. People who read the books seem to think that the books are better, and in this case I'm sure the complete feel of Westeros won't transfer over to the screen, but hey, HBO will give you the gist of things, and that's what this culture is all about---giving people the gist of things and then saying "You know what I'm saying?"

So anyway, this story is awesome, know what I'm saying?

And my one early complaint is they seem to be dressing everyone in drab gray, which is fine for realism but doesn't really help distinguish the characters from each other, and there are many! In fact, one of the things I said upon hearing they were making this series was "Awesome, now I'll finally get all of the characters straight in my head!" Then I see that they're all going to be dressed pretty much identically! Oh well.

Yeah, I am indeed taking that kind of approach. So, have gone back to reading the Harry Potter books after the films? After watching the Lord of The Rings trilogy, I began reading the books. I still personally like the films better, though. The books were too deep for me.

So, which story is awesome? Game of Throne's?

You know, I feel the same. Although I seem to be quite familiar with all of the characters after watching their featurettes, what you say still makes sense. I just hope their unique characteristics will make them stand out from each other. Imagine if someone never watches any of the featurettes, it's gonna be pretty challenging to indentify the numerous major characters, isn't it?

Updated post to include a Viewer's Guide that HBO released. First-time fans are highly recommended to read it since this show has a huge amount of characters.

I changed my satellite provider just to watch the first two episodes. I was told I get HBO free for the summer, but shocking the #1 customer service satellite is full of liars. I heard the fifth book is coming in June then he is going to finish it up by the time they get to season three if it goes that long. HBO is notorious for canceling shows, so I will be surprised if they get to book 3. If they do, the Red Wedding will cause people to shat their pants.

So I take it you've read the books. I myself haven't read any of the books. I hope HBO doesn't cancel this. They've invested in a lot of advertising and amrketing for this show. Check the Viewer's Guide to see a glimpse of this.

So you didn't get HBO free for the summer then? I can't believe that a popular company would go back on their word - I've never experienced that before.

Looks like the Red Wedding will be one hell of an event. Can't wait!

Well, I'll only read the books after Game of Thrones finishes or gets cancelled by HBO. Just like when I watched the Lord of The Rings trilogy, I never read the books before it, only after it.

That was amazing last night. They did cut out some of the meat of the Stark family dynamic, but they had enough where you can see the skeleton. I wonder how many people walked out during the sex stuff especially the last one.

I found the episode amazing! Wow, just wow. Glad you liked it too.

There was a lot of sexual stuff and a lot of breasts - no wonder they increased the ages of the characters such as Daenerys, etc. Did the sexual stuff bother you?

This was dull, maybe the books are a decent read, but a few naked girls, blood and swearing don't make a TV show. Sean Bean continues to play himself in yet another northern role. I wonder if he simply cannot do any other accent but his native Sheffield tongue. I will continue to watch to see if the story improves but apart from the production values, found it very underwhelming.

I see. Well, I've never seen Sean Bean apart from Lord of The Rings so that didn't really affect me. Most of the sexual stuff is actually part of the story such as the incest stuff, and it's pretty gritty realism for a fantasy show.

What did you find dull?

I just found it whatever story it was trying to deliver very slow, there wasn't a great deal happened and it seemed to me the producers thought showing naked girls at every given opportunity with some sporadic violence and a bit of swearing was somehow risque viewing. I would prefer they concentrated on the story a bit more rather than the soft porn element, it just got boring and I didn't find it gritty at all. I've become far too desensitized to these things, especially when they seem to be done for viewer reaction more than anything else. Having never read the book, or even known of them, it would be nice to sit down and watch something that would draw me in and entice me to watch further without having knowledge of the source material. If this is a story revolving around incest and cheap thrills ever week I think I will give up now. Maybe I'm being overly critical, so I will give it a few more episodes to see where it goes, but as it stands it didn't float my boat I'm afraid.
