HBO has released the trailer for upcoming teen drama Euphoria and in it, we see relationships forming, identities in flux, and the pleasure and pain of our most formative years in full view.
Based on the Israeli drama of the same name, with Sam Levinson (The Wizard of Lies) adapting for American television and Drake executive producing, Euphoria follows a group of high school students as they navigate drugs, sex, identity, trauma, social media, love, and friendship.
In addition to Zendaya, Euphoria stars Maude Apatow (This Is 40), Eric Dane (Grey’s Anatomy), Alexa Demie (Mid90s), Jacob Elordi (The Kissing Booth), Barbie Ferreira (Divorce), Nika King (Greenleaf), Storm Reid (A Wrinkle in Time), Algee Smith (The New Edition Story), Sydney Sweeney (Everything Sucks!), and newcomers Angus Cloud and Hunter Schafer.
The series comes as HBO looks to amp up the volume of content it produces in the wake of being acquired by AT&T. It’s part of an oncoming wave of scripted shows that includes Philip Pullman adaptation His Dark Materials; comic drama Watchmen; J.J. Abrams sci-fi drama Demimonde; Jordan Peele-produced horror drama Lovecraft Country; The Time Traveler’s Wife, a romantic drama based on Audrey Niffenegger’s novel; Joss Whedon sci-fi drama The Nevers; horror comedy Los Espookys; Kathryn Hahn dramedy Mrs. Fletcher; The Righteous Gemstones, from Danny McBride; Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Run; period drama Gentleman Jack; Catherine the Great, starring Helen Mirren; Russell T Davies family drama Years and Years; Stephen King-based drama The Outsiders; The Undoing, a limited series starring Nicole Kidman; Gorilla and the Bird, based on the memoir from Zack McDermott; Mark Ruffalo-starring I Know This Much is True; Kate Winslet-starring Mare of Easttown; and David Simon’s The Plot Against America.
