According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ugly Betty alum Adam Rodriguez will be recurring on the upcoming second season of Empire. He’s set to play smooth-talking concert promoter Laz Delgado, a man with expert hustler skills who takes an interest in Cookie.
Although Cookie might want to find somebody to spend her life with, or at least get back in the dating world with somebody who can give her a positive experience to grow from, there’s still the lingering presence of Lucious to deal with. He might be in prison right now, but soon enough, the Lyon will be unleashed once again and he won’t be taking it easy on anybody in his life. Cookie was already having a hard time separating herself from her ex-husband while the two were on good terms, so with them firmly on the outs now, there’s no way Lucious will let Cookie have anything resembling a normal life.
In addition to his role on the ABC dramedy, Rodriguez has appeared on the likes of The Goodwin Games, Roswell, and The Night Shift. He’s the latest addition to a ballooning slate of Empire guest stars that includes Chris Rock, Alicia Keys, and Lenny Kravitz, with writer/producer Ne-Yo to contribute new music during season two.
The second season of Empire will premiere Wednesday, September 23rd at 9:00 on FOX. You can check out a recap of the show’s first season finale here.
