Deadline has revealed that Angela Sarafyan of Westworld fame has landed a role on the upcoming Prime Video series El Gato which will star and be executive produced by Diego Boneta.
Her character Elisa Kazanjian is described as “a stoic CIA agent who, 10 years ago, was involved in a terrible massacre while serving in the military in Afghanistan. The traumatic event left her cold and emotionless, but no less capable. Presently she’s serving in Mexico City with the “Company” on a mission to unravel the criminal past of a billionaire agricultural titan Gabriel Guerrero.”
El Gato is based on the comic series El Gato Negro by Richard Dominguez. The series follows Frank Guerrero (Diego Boneta), who returns home to Mexico after the death of his father and finds himself neck-deep in a nest of vipers – his estranged family – who are vying for control of his father’s business empire. But Frank’s grief is interrupted when he learns his only inheritance, a seemingly worthless parcel of land on the border, sits atop the lair of a famous costumed vigilante — his father, “El Gato.”
The show was created by Eric Carrasco (Supergirl) who will showrun the series with Smallville and DC’s Stargirl veterans Turi Meyer and Alfredo Septién. The project is being produced by MGM Television, a division of Amazon MGM Studios.
