Deadline is reporting that The CW has given its first 2017-18 pilot orders to its reboot of primetime soap Dynasty, as well as genre drama Searchers.
From Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (Gossip Girl, The Carrie Diaries), the Dynasty reboot is one of the highest profile projects The CW put into development this season. It will continue to follow the Colbys and Carringtons and focus on the feud between Blake Carrington’s daughter Fallon and soon-to-be stepmother Cristal, a much younger woman based on the Linda Evans character from the original series. The CW has previously been home to two high profile reboots, with 90210 having a tremendously hot start before limping to a five-season run and Melrose Place unable to complete a full 22-episode season before being cancelled.
Searchers tells the story of a pragmatic brother and free spirited sister who are forced to team up when they learn that there might be more to their mother’s terrifying stories than they thought. In using what they’ve heard from her as their guide to the future, they soon begin discovering the legends, myths, and unexplainable mysteries of the world. The series, created by The 100‘s Jason Rothenberg and executive produced by Greg Berlanti (Arrow), is set to go into production this March in South Africa.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, The CW will likely see a similar number of pilots to what they did last year, when they ordered six and picked three up to series. Among the high profile projects yet to receive a pilot order are The Lost Boys, iZombie creator Rob Thomas’s anthological take on the cult classic 80s movie, and the Charmed reboot from Jane the Virgin creator Jennie Snyder Urman.
