Deadline is reporting that Rafael de la Fuente (Empire) is set as a series regular on The CW’s Dynasty pilot, a reboot of the 1980s primetime soap that starred Joan Collins, John Forsythe, and Linda Evans. He’ll be playing Sam, a cute schemer who has a one night stand with the rebellious son of a billionaire.
Executive produced by Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz (Hart of Dixie, Gossip Girl), Dynasty follows the rivalry between affluent families the Colbys and the Carringtons, whose rift extends from the social position of their children to the fate of their billions. The series will primarily focus on the conflict between Blake Carrington (Grant Show), Blake’s daughter Fallon (Elizabeth Gillies), and Cristal (Nathalie Kelley), the latter a much younger woman who gets romantically involved with Blake. For her part, Fallon believes that Cristal’s motives are less than pure and sets out to prove this to her father, no matter how much he proclaims to love her.
In addition to his role on the FOX soap, de la Fuente has appeared on the likes of When We Rise, Every Witch Way, and Grachi.
Dynasty is one of six CW pilots currently in consideration for 2017-18, joining DC-verse entrant Black Lightning, military conspiracy thriller Valor, cancer dramedy Life Sentence, beauty pageant drama Insatiable, and fantasy drama Searchers. Decisions on which projects ultimately make the schedule next season should come down in early May.
