Deadline is reporting that Devious Maids alum Grant Shot has signed on to star in The CW’s reboot of classic 1980s primetime soap Dynasty. He’ll be playing billionaire Blake Carrington, a role originated by John Forsythe.
Executive produced by Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz (The Carrie Diaries, Hart of Dixie), with Sallie Patrick (Revenge) to serve as showrunner should the show be picked up to series, Dynasty follows the intense rivalry between wealthy families the Colbys and the Carringtons, who spar over everything from the future of their children to the fate of their money. The series will focus on the conflict between Blake, Blake’s daughter Fallon (Elizabeth Gillies), and Cristal (Nathalie Kelley), a much younger woman who gets involved with Blake while working for him.
In addition to his role on the Lifetime soap, which was cancelled late last summer, Show has appeared on the likes of Melrose Place, The Family, and Satisfaction.
Dynasty is one of six CW pilots currently in contention for 2017-18, joining fantasy drama Searchers, cancer dramedy Life Sentence, beauty pageant drama Insatiable, DC-verse entrant Black Lightning, and military thriller Valor. Casting for each project should continue over the coming weeks, while decisions as to which of the six pilots gets ordered to series will be announced in early May.
The six CW pilots will be fighting for scheduling space with the remaining CW shows whose fates haven’t been decided – Frequency, No Tomorrow, The 100, The Originals, iZombie, and Riverdale.
