DC Comics’ Doom Patrol are showing up in the first season of the live-action Titans series for the DC Universe streaming service which also has a Swamp Thing series in the works. Now, Warner Bros. and DC have announced that the Doom Patrol will be getting their own 13-episode series!
The series will come from Executive Producers Greg Berlanti, Geoff Johns, Jeremy Carver and Sarah Schechter, and production will begin this year for a 2019 release. Jeremy Carver (Frequency, Supernatural) is the writer of the project.
The Doom Patrol is a series of misfits that launched in the comics around the same time as the X-Men, though sadly, they haven’t had the most long-term success despite having some talented creators doing their comic book adventures. The team was famously killed at the end of their original series, and the most famous run on the characters could probably be found in the comic books written by Grant Morrison. Recently, the Doom Patrol was revived as part of Gerard Way’s “Young Animal” imprint for DC.

DOOM PATROL is a re-imagining of one of DC’s most beloved group of outcast Super Heroes: Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Girl and Crazy Jane, led by modern-day mad scientist Dr. Niles Caulder (The Chief). The Doom Patrol’s members each suffered horrible accidents that gave them superhuman abilities — but also left them scarred and disfigured. Traumatized and downtrodden, the team found purpose through The Chief, who brought them together to investigate the weirdest phenomena in existence — and to protect Earth from what they find. Part support group, part Super Hero team, the Doom Patrol is a band of super-powered freaks who fight for a world that wants nothing to do with them. Picking up after the events of TITANS, DOOM PATROL will find these reluctant heroes in a place they never expected to be, called to action by none other than Cyborg, who comes to them with a mission hard to refuse, but with a warning that is hard to ignore: their lives will never, ever be the same.
So much good to come from the DC Universe streaming service… now, can they just pick up Lucifer already?
