Even though Matt Smith has been contracted for another series of 14 episodes beyond the current series, when his new Doctor Who episodes will run is another question.
BBC One Controller Danny Cohen confirmed at a recent event that there will not be a full series of episodes in 2012, but promised that there will be a “special run of episodes” in 2013, which also happens to be Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary.
There is some speculation that a handful of episodes will run in Autumn/Winter 2012 with the other half showing in early 2013. And, of course, it sounds as though a Christmas episode is part of the schedule for sure.
Those wanting more Who, however, should not fret – the show returns with six more new episodes this Fall, picking up on some of the mysteries Steven Moffat and his team left from the first half of the current series.
Hopefully an official announcement from the BBC Press Office will clear everything up soon.
