Online reports are suggesting and more and more people associated with the series are confirming that popular Doctor Who actress Elisabeth Sladen has passed away after battling cancer.
Sladen, who appeared on the show in the 1970’s as one of the series’ most well-remembered companions, returned to the series in a 2006 episode which led to her own CBBC spin-off, The Sarah Jane Adventures. It wasn’t the first time Lis Sladen was tapped for her own show – in 1981, she filmed K-9 And Company.
Folks involved with the series in one form or another such as Paul Cornell, Benjamin Cook, and the Gallifrey One convention have Tweeted about the subject, which shows this is likely much more than a cruel Internet rumor. UPDATE: BBC TV has now confirmed Sladen’s passing. :(
I met Lis Sladen at a Gallifrey con years ago and liked her so much. Last year’s “Death Of The Doctor” was one of the best Doctor Who stories we’ve had since the show came back, and that was a Sarah Jane episode! This news is a shock, and our thoughts are with the other fans and friends who loved Sarah Jane Smith.
Of all of The Doctor’s many companions, Sarah was his “best friend.” And she’s been in the hearts of Doctor Who fans for decades.

Liz made her portrayal of Sarah Jane great and with that made the character one of the most beloved characters of doctor who. I never got to meet her and for what i hear She even more wonderful in person than on t.v. I’m really gonna miss her.
