Doctor Who is new again this weekend on The BBC and BBC America, in a story that is reminiscent of classic stories of yesteryear where the Doctor and his companion are stuck in a place with a creature on the loose.
This week’s creature, which has already been revealed in pre-airing press material, is an Ice Warrior. The Ice Warriors were last seen on the show in 1974 with “The Monster Of Peladon,” so this is a real treat… and the character redesign is amazing!
(You might also watch and wonder why David Warner wasn’t just cast as First Doctor William Hartnell for the anniversary special, because the resemblance is uncanny.)
Here’s how BBC America describes the episode:
The Doctor and Clara land on a damaged Russian Submarine in 1983 as it spirals out of control into the ocean depths. An alien creature is loose on board, having escaped from a block of Arctic ice. With tempers flaring and a cargo of nuclear weapons on board, it’s not just the crew but the whole of humanity at stake! Cold War premieres Saturday, April 13, 8:00pm ET/PT on BBC AMERICA as part of Supernatural Saturday. Written by Mark Gatiss (Sherlock) and directed by Douglas Mackinnon (Silent Witness).
