Two Supernatural alums are included in the cast of the HBO Max Dead Boy Detectives pilot which is largely recast from the characters’ appearance on Doom Patrol, according to a report from Variety that is not yet confirmed or commented on by the studio.
The Supernatural alums in question are Alexander Calvert, who will be playing Thomas the Cat King and has a DC Comics connection in his past as “Anarky” on Arrow; and Ruth Connell, who played “Night Nurse” on Doom Patrol (no relation to Marvel’s Night Nurse) and will be reprising the role for Dead Boy Detectives.
Based on the characters created by Neil Gaiman for DC Comics, the three leads for Dead Boy Detectives will be newcomer George Rexstrew, Jayden Revri (The Lodge), and Kassius Nelson (Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events). George and Jayden’s characters are two young detectives who decide not to enter the afterlife in order to stay on Earth and investigate crimes involving the supernatural; Kassius Nelson joins them as Crystal Palace, a living psychic medium.
In addition to the actors mentioned above, the show is said to include Briana Cuoco (The Flight Attendant) as Jenny, “a mildly punk butcher and a confidant of Crystal Palace;” Jenn Lyon (Claws) as Esther, who is “a witch obsessed with youth and immortality;” and Yuyu Kitamura (Mother Tongue) as Niko, “a boarding school student intent on joining the Dead Boy Detectives agency who now lives above Jenny’s butcher shop.
The roles of Rowland and Paine were played by Sebastian Croft and Ty Tennant on Doom Patrol. You can read Variety’s full report here.
