Going a little more on the genre TV side as opposed to the “rich girl dramas” side, The CW is interested in Danny Hollywood, an hour long project based on an Israeli series that has gone for 200 episodes. Easy A writer Bert Royal is writing an American adaptation, and executive producers include Mark Harmon, Eric & Kim Tannenbaum, and Martha Height.
Deadline.com broke the news minutes ago, saying this about the concept: “In the time travel fantasy-musical, a young documentary filmmaker travels back in time in order to prevent the death of her ’90s musical idol Danny Hollywood, and finds that the story is even more complicated than she thought.”
It looks like the Israeli version takes place in the 1960’s, though, but considering how many 60’s dramas there already are, maybe a change is a good thing.
Royal is also involved with a CW project called Dare, which is about a group of young people who are forced to play a deadly game of Truth Or Dare while at the same time trying to find out who is begin the game in the first place, and how to end it.
Could be interesting, but let’s hope they haven’t forgotten their other “dead guy” story… the adaptation of DC Comics’ Deadman from Supernatural creator Eric Kripke. And as with any TV series development, this is no guarantee that Danny Hollywood will make it to TV.

It all sounded good, until it hit the “musical” part. Don’t get me wrong, I like musicals (“Glee” “High School Musical” etc), and I’m glad they are looking at a show that’s not teeny bopper, rich people shows and expanding their demographic to everyone. However, I agree, I really hope they pick up “Deadman”. That would be the perfect pairing for Supernatural.
The premise sounds interesting though. We’ll see what they do I guess! Can’t judge it till you’ve seen it, and it’s good that it’s something different. I’m just glad they are changing their direction in what shows they will be airing. I watched a trailer of the Danny Hollywood it is based off of, and it actually looked interesting.
