The children of Washington D.C.’s elite are kidnapped when their bus is ambushed, igniting a national crisis. Now, their parents – all important figures with a lot of power – are at the mercy of one vengeful mastermind. That is the plot behind Crisis, the new series premiering tonight (March 16) at 10PM on NBC.
Crisis boasts a cast full of well-known names including The X-Files’ Gillian Anderson, One Tree Hill’s James Lafferty, 666 Park Avenue and Charlie’s Angels alum Rachael Taylor, and not-Dylan-McDermott Dermot Mulroney.
At NBC’s winter press tour, creator and executive producer Rand Ravich described the machine of the season as “what will you do for your child?”
“We want to see parents week after week being asked that question: ‘Will they say yes?’ ‘Will they say no?’ ‘Who will they betray?’ ‘How will they betray them?’ So there will be satisfying emotional and plot‑driven, parent‑driven stories almost every week while feeding into the larger series,” Ravich teased about the season’s arc.
Crisis also marks the first time in a good amount of time that Gillian Anderson has been a series regular on a broadcast network series. What drove her to the pilot? “I couldn’t put the pilot down, basically,” Anderson explained. “I was starting to look for something in this part of the world again, and read a few things, and this was just one of those projects that I couldn’t stop thinking about. I gave it to my teenager. She couldn’t put it down. And so that was it. Just started the conversation with Rand and Far [Shariat, another executive producer] about what that might look like living in London and commuting to Chicago, and so the mixture of really good writing and a good cast coming together and that potentially being a doable transition kind of convinced me towards it, and I’m excited about it,” she said.
