TNT has announced that hour-long crime dramedy Claws will be making its series premiere on Sunday, June 11th at 9:00.
From Eliot Laurence (The Big Gay Sketch Show), Claws follows five manicurists at the Nail Artisan salon in Manatee County, Florida as they’re forced into supplementing their income by less than legal means.
The series stars Niecy Nash (Getting On) as Desna, the salon owner who takes care of her mentally ill twin brother; Jenn Lyon (Phil Spector) as Jennifer, Desna’s best friend who has been battling her sobriety while raising two children; Judy Reyes (Devious Maids) as enigmatic Quiet Ann, Desna’s driver and the security at Nail Artisan; Carrie Preston (The Good Wife) as mild-mannered Polly, who recently served time for identity theft; and Karrueche Tran (The Nice Guys) as Virginia, who finds working at a salon to be really boring.
Claws joins a scripted slate for TNT that includes Major Crimes, The Last Ship, Good Behavior, The Librarians, and Animal Kingdom, with fellow new drama Will set to premiere in the summer. The series also arrives the summer following the cancellation of fellow female ensemble dramas Devious Maids and Mistresses, with Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce set to wrap its run following two more (obscenely) short seasons, meaning that there is an opening for this type of show to succeed.
