Multiple media outlets are now confirming that ABC will be going ahead with shooting a new adaptation of Charlie’s Angels. The pilot was written by Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, and already the first casting announcement has been made – Robert Wagner will be voicing the unseen boss of the Angels, Charlie.
In the original TV series as well as the two movies starring Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, and Lucy Liu, Charlie was voiced by John Forsythe, who passed away earlier this year at age 92. Interestingly, this is not the first time Robert Wagner has been associated with the Angels — he and his late wife, Natalie Wood, were profit participants in the original series, although later litigation happened covering what exactly that profit would be. Things must have been cleared up, as the original show’s Leonard Goldberg is a producer on the new project. (Aaron Spelling died five years ago)
The new Angels will be based in Miami, and Wagner himself doesn’t know yet how he will be communicating, since the voice box used in the original series is very 1976. “I would imagine it will probably be quite different because the technology is quite different. I would imagine it would be on cell phones wherever these gals are,” Wagner told Entertainment Weekly. “I could be tweeting them, I could be doing a lot of things with them, you know.”
Replacing Jill, Sabrina, and Kelly this time around will be three Angels tentatively named Marisa Valdez, Kate Prince, and Abby Sampson. Latina Marisa’s the tough one who might have a preference for the ladies; African-American Kate’s a former cop; and Caucasian Abby is a former teenage criminal with a soft spot for underachieving guys. It sounds like Marisa might be the replacement for a fallen Angel named Gloria who was killed in action… but, of course, plot details could change between the casting process and filming, which should begin fairly soon.
Stay tuned for more details as they become available. Who would you cast as these three lovely ladies? And who would you cast as their middleman Bosley? Leave some comments below!

I was kind of hoping for a female Charlie, tbh. Maybe Michelle Forbes doing the voice?
Thomas, don’t make me miss Global Frequency again…
Oh wait, you just did.
Still wish for Forbes as Miranda Zero :(
As long as they stick more to the series than the movies
