Deadline is reporting that Togetherness alum Melanie Lynskey has joined upcoming Hulu drama Castle Rock. She’ll be playing Molly Strand, a real estate agent with a rare medical condition who’s barely getting by.
Based on the works of Stephen King and developed for television by Sam Shaw & Dustin Thomason (Manhattan), Castle Rock is set in Castle Rock, Maine, a town that prominently plays into a number of King’s works. Specific details about what the show exactly is are hard to come by at this point, but considering that the show is said to be set in the King multiverse, there’s a possibility that this could become Penny Dreadful but with Stephen King characters instead of creatures from gothic literature (and the public domain).
In addition to her role on the HBO comedy, Lynskey has appeared on the likes of Girlboss, Sunshine, and Two and a Half Men. She joins a cast that includes Andre Holland (The Knick) as Henry, a death row attorney with a unique history in Castle Rock; Jane Levy (Suburgatory) as death-obsessed Jackie, the self-appointed town historian; and Sissy Spacek (Bloodline) as Ruth, the adoptive mother of Henry.
Castle Rock joins a scripted slate for Hulu that includes The Handmaid’s Tale, Harlots, The Path, and Casual, among others.
