CBS has given Bible comedy By the Book a series order. The series marks CBS’s fourth comedy order for next season, joining family ensemble 9JKL, Boyhood-esque single cam Me, Myself and I, and Big Bang Theory prequel Young Sheldon. It’s also a sign that the broadcast networks were forced to become more conservative following the November election of Donald Trump; not only does CBS have something like By the Book in development, one of two religious series that will make the schedule next season (the other being ABC’s The Gospel of Kevin), multiple military shows have been ordered to series and inclusivity in terms of casting and voice hasn’t been as prominent with what’s been ordered.
Executive produced by Johnny Galecki (The Big Bang Theory) and based on A.J. Jacobs’ bestseller The Year of Living Biblically, By the Book follows a modern man (Jay R. Ferguson) who decides to live according to the Bible after facing a significant crossroads in his life.
In addition to Ferguson, By the Book stars Ian Gomez (Cougar Town), David Krumholtz (Numbers), and Camryn Manheim (Ghost Whisperer).
CBS will be revealing its plans for 2017-18 on Wednesday, May 17th. You can check out what KSiteTV thought they could do next season here.
