Comedy Central has announced the acquisition of acclaimed Netflix dramedy BoJack Horseman‘s off-network rights. The series will make its network premiere Wednesday, September 26th at 10:30 following the season premiere of South Park.
“Comedy Central has a long history of using potent satire to help make sense of trying times, so BoJack Horseman is a perfect fit in our lineup,” said Tanya Giles, General Manager, Comedy Central. “We’re thrilled to be the first to put BoJack on linear TV, and who better than an animated horse to teach us a thing or two about humanity?”
Whereas episodes will air unedited in their regular time slot, some content could be trimmed so that BoJack could air during the day. Select episodes will also be made available through the Comedy Central app and the network’s website, respectively. The series joins King of the Hill and The Cleveland Show as Comedy Central syndication acquisitions that will premiere in the coming months, while it’s part of select company when it comes to streaming shows finding syndication deals. Thus far, Transparent found an off-network home on SundanceTV and Lifetime struck a deal for Amazon romantic comedy Catastrophe.
From Raphael Bob-Waksberg (The Exquisite Corpse Project), BoJack Horseman follows the title character (Will Arnett), a self-loathing horse whose alcoholism stems from the state of his acting career and what life has been like post-fame. The series opens with BoJack planning a return to Hollywood through a juicy tell-all autobiography.
In addition to Arnett, BoJack Horseman stars Alison Brie (GLOW), Amy Sedaris (At Home with Amy Sedaris), and Aaron Paul (The Path).
