FOX made the continuation of acclaimed animated comedy Bob’s Burgers official today by renewing the series for an 11th season.
The news comes as no surprise considering a number of factors. It continues to be one of FOX’s top streaming performers, while it’s also one of the few FOX shows that finds its way into awards conversations. Thus far in its run, it’s been nominated for Outstanding Animated Program at the Primetime Emmys eight times, winning twice. Additionally, the network now owns the studio that produces Bob’s Burgers (Bento Box Entertainment), giving it a stake in the show’s immense syndication success and allowing it to be monetized in ways outside of ad money.
If all that wasn’t enough, there’s a Bob’s Burgers feature film set for release in April 2021. Originally, the film was to debut this coming summer, but it was one of many to have its release date pushed due to coronavirus.
FOX has been doubling down on animated content recently, sticking by its three big guns (Bob’s, Family Guy, The Simpsons) while renewing Bless the Harts and Duncanville and ordering Housebroken and The Great North. The thinking is that animated shows tend to make better sense financially than live-action while having a big streaming presence that FOX can monetize, as they own a piece of most of their animated content.
